The Making of a Print

One of the things I love most about designing clothing is designing PRINTS....oh the possibilities!
And I thought you'd get a kick out of where a print might come from. As a designer, I get much of my inspiration from architecture. For our Summer Collection, we have a print called Trellis.

Walking home from our NYC store last spring, I came across this metal gate in front of a store on Lexington in the 70's.
Pretty right? Well then the creative juices started flowing.
And I put the gate into photoshop

Turned it sideways and added some balls
Then reversed the background

And added come CKB initials, which are hidden in ALL of our prints

And ta da!

NIFF Closing Party

Camilla Bradley in a CK Bradley Bombardino Dress and Ali Hill in vintage CK Bradley

Another fabulous party for the Newport International Film Festival. Bravo to all who worked on it! The party last night was at Easton's Beach which is a VERY original venue. Easton's is a Public Beach by day filled with mounds of people and all their beach accessories...and NIFF turned it into a hot spot by night. Perhaps safe to say this night ONLY.

Three CK Bradley Dresses spotted at the party...a girl can't complain!

The Hill Sisters, Ali and Tori
Brad Rogers in his fabulously original Jacket

Brad cut me off in the parking lot in his mini Mini Cooper on the way to the party. Now I DO drive a big BIG Suburban, so for a little Mini to have the gumption to cut me off...well ballsy to say the least. I chased him down at the party only to find his threads stylin'.

I adore it when there is a colorful suprise inside a man's jacket. I mean WHY NOT? Why should the inside lining be reserved and dull? If it is hidden for the most part, all the more reason to make it pack a punch when it is discovered! Well done Brad. And I forgive you for having a much faster, more nimble ride.

Now a brief interlude to focus on Ali Nichols AND her ensemble for the evening
Shoes and Skirt? Oscar de la Renta. Oscar, you take my breath away. Pure GENIUS.

And paired with a side of Stella?
Even better.

Do It Yourself: Ballroom Chairs a la Grosgrain

ck bradley warehouse
The CK Bradley Warehouse is FULL of creative projects, new accessories and prints begging to be thought of, drawn up and created. This is our "Cutting Table" courtesy of WKP Construction. I know, it looks a lot like a Beirut Table. But during the daylight hours, before the CK Bradley Warehouse turns into the CK Bradley Nightclub, we call it a "Cutting Table".

So back to the CK Bradley Warehouse and the project of the day: Weaving the seat of a ballroom chair with Grosgrain Ribbon.
ck bradley grosgrain ribbonYou might find a trip to the CK Bradley Warehouse more entertaining and inspiring than our boutique...that is if you can handle particle board floors and a bunch of cute sail makers upstairs.
We have HUNDREDS of spools of custom and striped Grosgrain, so if you want to get your paws on some overstock, give us a holler...

I started with an unpainted old Ballroom Chair we used to have at our Dining Room table. We happen to have a few dozen of these in barns and garages courtesy of a Dad who saves EVERYTHING. They can't be that hard to come by, although the ones that have caning/straw seats might be harder to find.
Wood is nice, but better with more neutral ribbons. And if you know CK Bradley, 'neutral' is not in the vocabulary. So....I spray painted it silver to suit the ribbons better. Any shiny lacquer paint would look great on one of these classic chairs.
Then I picked 3 colors of Grosgrain Ribbon

Then used a T-50 Staple gun, (which EVERY home should have) and wove my heart away listening to Brett Dennen playing Blessed.

And....VOILA! A woven seat of ribbon emerged....
