New CK Bradley Model...

I unexpectedly became a mother this New Years...and THAT changes your life OVERNIGHT. So if you wonder why I haven't been blogging, it is because I haven't had a moment to myself between furry love and jealous feathers. (Tigger likes his new sister...video to come.)
Her name is Kodiak...Kodi for short. 3 month old Bernese Mountain Dog. If I were Native American(and according to my Dad I am....but not enough to have helped me get into Dartmouth) I would call her Sleep Stealer Smile Maker Love Giver Whimperer.

She doesn't flinch with the toys I have bought her...but give her a pile of belts and POOF! Entertainment for minutes. Yes minutes. Hopefully one day it will be hours. But I will take minutes for now.

Sleeping....look at those legs stretched out!
I figure it's not long before Kodi can't fit under anything because she's bigger than EVERYTHING... So she'd better get her fill now!
Puppy Paws...Can they get any pinker and brand spanking NEW?

Anyway, I am crate training her, and I hear SO many mixed reviews...if any of you have input on NOT crate training I'd love to hear it.

-Tired and Finding it hard to get ANYTHING Done, Bradley

  4. LOVE bernese mountain dogs!! when i lived in switzerland they were as ubiquitous as Labs are in the U.S. Such cute bundles of fur-- and big too! But i love big dogs.

Crate training is the only way to go. The dogs learn to love the crate. It's their sanctuary. We've had dogs my whole life and they've always been crate trained. My parents 4 month old Lab goes in her crate all the time (with the door open) just to nap.

  5. I have to agree. Unless you have a room especially for the little fur ball that is all her own, I think it's your best bet. We've never crate trained our dogs, but the sun room was always puppy territory. With tile floors, doors that closed, and plenty of room for toys and dog beds, it's basically like a big crate. If you don't have the space, crating is your next best bet though.

  6. What an adorable dog! Crate training is the way to go. You'll have a much saner life in doing so. Happy New Year!

  7. Congrats on your adorable dog! TOO CUTE!!
I have to tell you we crate trained our Golden who is now 9. It's the best...she eventually outgrew it and we let her hang in the house when we were gone...which is totally fine now. All she does that I wish she wouldn't is...shed. C'est la vie.

  8. Oh! A Bernese! What a wonderful way to start the new year. My family have raised four Kuvasz over the years and swear by crate-training. With lots of play time outdoors, of course. Enjoy your bundle! tIO x

  9. What a sweet puppy face! We have a 7 month old Golden and tried at first to crate train her; she cried and cried - we gave in and she won. The kitchen became her crate and she loved it. She now sleeps on the floor in our bedroom and everyone is happy! We put her in the kitchen when we go off but are starting to let her roam the house all by herself. Good luck and have fun with your pup!

  10. oh! oh! I can't stand it, she is just too cute! They are such a beautiful breed, be prepared to be stopped every 2 feet by admirers while you walk her. Your Native American name will be Tall Blonde Who Walks Gorgeous Dog

I love her name - my stepson is getting a Siberian Husky in a few weeks, he's only 3 weeks old now (the dog, not the stepson!). We're playing the name game now.....

  11. Well guys...I broke down to day wondering HOW I would be able to do this, THANK GOODNESS I have Doggy Day Care at the CKB Store! And if Spring 2010 arrives late, it may be because Kodi has swallowed me whole.

  12. The first 3-8 months are horrible. I too broke down, cried and found the whole thing to be the most frustrating thing ever. I think I commented at one point that raising a puppy was harder than getting my MBA! Crate training SAVED us. Like others, we did it until she was about 15 months old and we could trust her not to destroy anything or make a mess. I'm pro crate training, especially if you value anything in your house, your sanity and everyone's safety!
